You should move your wrist back and forth on the finger board as much as possible. You may move your arm and/or your wrist, because there are two types of vibrato: arm vibrato and wrist vibrato. You should test each one to see which one is right for you. I personally think that arm vibrato is easier, and it produces a better vibrato. Also, relax your arm and wrist because if you are gripping the neck of the violin it will make vibrato difficult. A wrist vibrato is the correct way when the arm does not move. To master the real art of vibrato, one must be able to not move the arm but the wrist only to do one unless at high positions.

How i learnt my vibrato; try knocking in mid air and watch the movement of your wrist. If your wrist is stiff keep practising until it is fluent. Try putting a comfortable finger on the finger board and slowly (i mean it) slowly rock it back and forth.

Learn Vibrato Easily... these are words that just don't go together.

Vibrato is an advanced technique and it can take years to master.

You can start with various exercises of the left wrist, moving it back and forth slowly in the way it would with vibrato.

It is best to start with pizzicato playing on the violin for vibrato practice, as there is less likelihood of the hands getting confused and it allows you to focus on just the left hand.

Practice in front of a mirror as this allows you to monitor your movements and avoid the pitfalls of finger vibrato (which is not by any stretch the same as a proper vibrato).

Work on starting with your hand in 1st position and moving it right up to place the 4th finger on the fingerboard at the highest point you can reach. The simulates a very extreme vibrato movement and gets the hand used to move in that way!

Watch others vibrato-ing (go on YouTube.com and check out some professional players) look at the mechanics of how it works and try to emulate that!

Above all, have patience, with lots of practice it will start to develop.

Like you do on any stringed and fretless instrument...you "rock" your finger back and forth (up and down the string relative to the neck). This is contrasted with fretted instruments like sitars and Guitars where you will "pull" the string up slightly and wiggle it in the direction perpendicular to the string and parallel to the fret.

You bend the strings. Do you have a vibrato system on the guitar? I'm presuming your a beginner so if you don't know then check on the back of the guitar, is their a plate their with springs behind it? If so you have a vibrato. Just stick in your whammy bar and push the whammy bar down (and up if you can, not all guitars can go up). If you don't have a floating bridge/vibrato then there's a lil trick. Just behind the nut you can push the strings down with your finger, creating vibrato.

You don't use vibrato, it's not...like...a tool. You must learn it. Have a music teacher or a family member who plays violin or anyone who plays violin to teach you.

You can play a tremolo on a violin by moving your bow hand back and forth in quick short movements while playing. This should create a tremolo.

Realistically, the violin is harder to play because there are no frets for one to easily find the notes. One must determine the correct notes by ear, and then shift one's finger position accordingly.
