The magnetic field of a planet varies between the equator and the poles. Some planets have a variable magnetic field, others have such a small magnetic field that it almost impossible to detect.

The following figures are approximate and are in gauss [See related link] Numbers are order of strongest to weakest.

  • 2) Mercury - ~0.33G
  • 7) Venus - < 0.01G
  • 3) Earth - 0.3 -> 0.6G
  • 8) Mars - None
  • 1) Jupiter - 10 -> 14G
  • 5) Saturn - 0.2G
  • 4) Uranus - 0.23G Variable
  • 6) Neptune - 0.14G

How can magnetism be induced in non magnetic iron?

In a magnetic material that is not a magnet, magnetic domains are arranged in random fashion canceling the net magnetic field. If such a material, like an iron rod, is exposed to a strong magnetic field, the domains will arrange themselves in the direction of the applied field and hence object will become magnetized.

A machine used for making sub-atomic particles move faster?

Particle accelerators function to propel subatomic particles. They use electromagnetic fields to make the particles move at a faster speed, and to arrange them into beams.

What holds Saturn's rings?

Gravity and centrifugal force.All the planets have gravity and centrifuganl force. Saturn has a very stable spin, which would indicate that there is a tremendous core speed. This would indicate that its core is likely a remnant of a colapsed neutron star. The rings are held in their stationary position by magnetic forces between the individual particles in the ring. The conic section of the neutron sub atomic particle emissions is diplayed in the thickness of the ring. These particles generate the magnetic moment to particles in their path. As such the particles arrange themselves in electromagnetically orderd ring sets.
