It could be a number of reasons, Heart problems, lung infection (inflamed lungs). The number one cause of rib pain is bruised or fractured ribs. It could also be the tissue between your rib cage and lungs are sore. I had some rib pain recently that was persistent over a month I went in to get it check out and a CT scan showed inflamed instants that ended up being due to a bacterial infection and gastritis. I'm no doctor my any means, but some research will take you a long way. If its serious enough to post a question id say its serious enough to see a doctor. Good Luck.

∙ 11y agoThis could be a variety of things - a pulled muscle, a cracked rib, a kidney infection, localized bronchitis, etc. If you otherwise feel fine, you can probably wait a day or so and see if it gets better. If you are short of breath, feel fevered or cannot move due to the pain, you should head to the emergency room for an examination.
