A horse's foot is called a HOOF. There is an old saying "no foot, no horse" meaningif a horse cannot use its hooves it is good for nothing: riding, farm work, ect. Hoof care is inportant because if a horse is lame or has a bad hooof it cannot be ridden. The hoof of a horse is divided into two parts: the outer insensitive parts and the inner, sensitive parts. A horse's hooves need to be trimmed every 4 to 6 weeks, its like cutting and filing your nails. The Outer Insensitive Parts of A Horse's Hoof include the outer wall, the sole, and the frog. The Inner Sensitive Parts of A Horse's Hoof include bones and cartilage. Outer wall = made of dense horn and is constantly growing Frog= triangular shaped structure in the center of hoof

Generally the leg as a whole is referred to just a leg. However, different parts of the legs do have different names, such as: * Forearms - This is a term applied to the front legs. * Thigh - The large muscle part at the top of the back legs.

* Gaskin - This refers to the top half of the back legs

* Hocks - The ankles, which is located on nearly half way up the legs. * Chestnuts - These are normally found near the knees or hocks. * Connon Bones - The shin bone. * Fetlock Joints - A hinge joint connecting the hoof the the rest of the leg.
