The 4 D's of pellagra are dermatitis (skin rash), diarrhea, dementia (mental confusion), and ultimately death if left untreated. Pellagra is caused by a deficiency of niacin (vitamin B3) in the diet.
Rickets in children and osteomalacia are examples of deficiency diseases due to vitamin deficiency. Scurvy is an example of vitamin C deficiency. Beriberi is an example of vitamin B one deficiency. (Both, wet beriberi and dry beriberi.) Pellagra is an example of Niacin deficiency. Anemia is caused by deficiency of vitamin B 12 and Folic acid. Burning feet syndrome is caused by the deficiency of Pantothenic acid. Night blindness is caused by the deficiency of vitamin A. Kwashiorkor and marasmus are caused by deficiency of proteins and food, respectively. Poverty is caused by deficiency of kindness. Inequality is caused by deficiency of compassion.
Pellagra is not an infectious disease. Pellagra is a nutritional deficiency disease.

Joseph Goldberger believed that pellagra was caused by a nutritional deficiency, particularly a lack of niacin in the diet. He conducted studies showing that pellagra could be prevented and treated by adding foods rich in niacin, such as meat and milk, to the diet.
It slows down in the body's metabolism, making people feel the cold more. Severe deficiency causes pellagra. The name 'pellagra' comes from Italian for 'rough skin'
