It depends on who was surprised. If the Eskimos were hunting, then most likely the Eskimo would win, because he would have long-range weapons and the advantage of numbers... but if an eskimo was fishing and a polar bear came up and it was all hand-to-claw combat... even if he had a knife handy.... the eskimo is dead. If he has a gun handy, it could go either way... depends on how fast he can move and how good his aim is.

Kodiak Bears are the largest subspecies of Brown Bears and are found only on the on Kodiak Island off the Southern coast of Alaska. These Bears grow so much bigger than other Brown Bears and Grizzlies because they are able to feed on washed up whale carcasses as well as an abundance of Pacific Salmon. Brown Bears are some of the most aggressive animals on the planet.
