The most common cause for this disorder is probably the overenthusiastic parents and medical profession. They overfeed the infant and make him obese. That becomes the habit of the child to overeat the food. Wise old women used to tell that the baby in the womb of mother should be small. According to them, that helps mother to undergo the normal delivery as against the cesarean section delivery. Contributor always argued with the old ladies, but now tend to question the authenticity of the medical profession. What do you achieve in becoming very tall can always be questioned. It is very difficult to tackle the problem. You can give a lot of advice. It is very difficult to fallow the same. The child goes in psychological depression and tend to overeat. Thus setting a vicious cycle.

You may say there is no 'prevention' but there are things that can be done to make people more aware and that you can do to stop an eating disorder at it's very roots to stop it developing into more dangerous territory!

Within the family home (if you are a parent/carer e.t.c.) mealtimes can be a very important factor. 1.It gives children positive eating habits and 2. doesn't give them much chance to skip meals! Also, The media is a big influence but obviously people cannot stop it from being spread! But you can teach people that images in the magazines, on the TV are not always healthy ones.

If you suspect an eating disorder it is important that you speak to the person about it!! :) If you think you may have an eating disorder go out and speak to someone else about it. You can talk to a teacher at school, your GP, family , friends... no one will judge! They will be so glad to help :)

Hope this helps you?

Eating disorders can be hereditary, or caused by a low self image. Teenage girls tend to be the most susceptible to eating disorders, as they have self image and self esteem problems. The best way to prevent eating disorders is to make sure your children have access to good counselling if they have esteem issues.
