∙ 8y agoThey say history is written by the winning side. This has to be taken into account by historians when they are trying to find out the true facts about past events. Thus when you read history you need to maintain a skeptical viewpoint as to the veracity of the record.

What viewpoints does this writer call on to explain or position his or her own? Reading critically means attention to more than the sum of words on the page; it means paying careful attention to how the work situates itself in the world. It also means to read in preparation for your own response to the work. Ultimately, critical reading is critical writing.
