Kansas state senators do not collect a salary, but rather are paid based on their time of service. From the Secretary of State's website (http://www.kssos.org): --- The sum of $84.80 per calendar day for service at any regular or special session; the sum of $99 per calendar day for expenses; and an out-of-session expense allowance of $6,775 to defray expenses incurred between sessions of the legislature; plus mileage, as provided by law. Members attending any legislative business authorized by the Legislative Coordinating Council between sessions receive compensation, subsistence and mileage (assuming 12 days of meetings). The President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House each receive $13,428 per annum for additional services in discharging their duties. The Majority and Minority Leaders of the Senate and House of Representatives each receive $12,114 per annum for additional services in discharging their duties. The Speaker Pro Tem of the House of Representatives, the Vice President of the Senate and the Assistant Majority and Minority Leaders of both houses each receive $6,854 per annum additionally, and the chairpersons of the Senate Committee on Ways and Means and the House Committee on Appropriations receive $10,799 for additional services. --- So assuming that a senator worked a full 2080 hours or 260 days (which they don't because the Senate isn't in session that long), they would earn a base income of $22,040 with an expense allowance of $25,740 for in-session expenses and another $6,775 for out of session expenses. Added to that are mileage and additional pay for special positions or committee memberships. If the President of the Senate worked a full year he would earn $35,468 in income with an expense allowance of $32,515 + mileage.
