Steps to changing the timing belt on a 2005 VW Jetta Wagon 1.9 TDI?
When changing the belts in a vehicle it is important to have a diagram. A route diagram can be found in the maintenance manual of the car, or a sticker with a diagram may be found under the hood of the car.

On a 2005 VW Jetta TDI the timing belt should be inspected at 80,000 miles and replaced at 100,000 miles. Neglecting to do the belt could result in your car breaking down on you when the belt jumps, and further damage to the engine resulting in costly repairs. Since a 1.9 TDI engine is a high-compression diesel engine, it is an interference motor. This means that a snapped or jumped timing belt may result in having to rebuild/replace the engine which could run upwards of $4000. In most cases a jumped timing belt would damage only the heads but it is possible it may do more damage depending on the circumstances when it broke.

i have an '06 jetta wagon 5 speed tdi. the torque settings for my tire are 92lbs
I don't have an exact answer for you because Jetta's came with a plain four cylinder (1.8L I think), a 1.8L turbocharged four cylinder, the 2.8L VR6 six cylinder, or the TDI diesel. To get a more specific answer from someone you will have to indicate your engine.Regardless though, the alternator is driven by the serpentine belt, so if you can follow this around you should be able to fine the alternator. If you can't recognize it, you're probably not the one to put a wrench to it.
