Well, I called an appliance repair guy and he is coming to put a valve on my gas line that I can turn on and off as needed. My pilot lights keep the kitchen hot and I use my stove/oven maybe three times a year. So he will be putting a handle on my gas line so that I can turn it off and on when I actually use it.

This is an old codger with 40+ years of experience (semi-retired) so I would think that he would know if that wasn't safe to do.

How do you light the water heater pilot?

Turn knob to PILOT, press button down and light the pilot; hold button down for 60 seconds and release - pilot should remain lit; turn knob to ON. If pilot does not remain lit, turn knob to OFF, wait 5 minutes and try again, If pilot still will not remain lit, replace the thermocoupler.

How do you light the pilot on a 10 year old Teledyne Lars LLG pool heater with an electronic spark?

You don't. If the heater has an electronic spark, then it doesn't have a standing pilot to light. The spark lights the pilot when there is a call for heat, which in turn lights the burners. If the heater is on and the pump is RUNNING, the heater should light automatically when the water temperature is lower than the heat setting.

Hot air balloons have a gas heater attached to them the pilot can turn the heater on the balloon and the balloon will go high why?

Hot air balloons have a gas heater that is generally powered by propane. When the pilot turns the heater on, the balloon will fly high due to the hydrocarbon chamber that allows the pilot control of ascent and descent of the hot air balloon.

Why does your Richmond water heater pilot turn off?

It is most likely the thermocouple that is bad. That is what keeps the pilot light on. The thermocouple is the small tube that sits in the flame of the pilot and runs to the control valve.

How To Turn on and Ignite a Gas Wall Heater?

Sometimes figuring out how to turn on and ignite a gas wall heater can gradually turn into a very difficult and arduous process. In fact, learning how to turn on a wall heater does not require superior intelligence and it can be done quickly and safely without any of the hassle. Lighting the Pilot The pilot is simply a small flame inside of the heater that is constantly burning whether the heater is on or off. It’s there to ignite the gas when needed. Instead of immediately jumping into lighting the pilot, it’s a good idea to make sure the pilot is not already lit. If it’s not, then you are ready to light it. Search for a knob that reads “Pilot” and make sure it is turned to that setting. After turning it to the “Pilot” position, hold down the knob until you smell gas emitting. Release the knob and the pilot should stay lit. If the knob is not able to be pressed down, search for a red knob or something similar that can be pressed in. After holding the knob down for at least a minute, let go and the pilot should stay lit. If the pilot doesn’t stay lit, repeat the process of lighting the pilot again. If the pilot still refuses to light, there might be a problem with the heater. Powering On the Gas Now that your pilot is lit, you’ll want to turn the gas on so that your wall heater can begin actually producing heat. Locate the same knob that you turned to the “Pilot” position, and turn it to the “On” or “Operate” position. Doing this can be a little troublesome because it may take a few tries. Also remember that the flames might be a little intense if the knob is turned over to the “On” position too quickly. Setting the Desired Temperature Now that your gas has been turned on, you’re ready to set the temperature. Search for a knob with temperatures or numbers, and twist to the desired level.

How do you light the pilot on a gas water heater?

By reading the directions provided with the heater The older types of water heaters have a gas controller that has on top there is a button called pilot and you must turn the adjusting knob to pilot then hold the button down , light the pilot tube located just below the thermo couple HOLD it down for TWO minutes (enough time to heat the thermo couple) then release and make sure the pilot stays lit.. Then turn the dial to ON and adjust the temperature On the newer models there is an sparker and you should read the directions supplied with each type of heater . YOU should also find out WHY THE PILOT LIGHT WENT OUT as sown drafts can be quite dangerous
