I believe we should value each and every animal's life as if they are human, because they share some of the same organs, facial and body features, they have feelings, they have emotions, they have a brain, and can catch on pretty quick let alone are able to detect cancers, ailments, and how to calm those suffering with mental and emotional illnesses. I don't agree with companies who still rely on animals to test their products on or run experiments. Because if things were switched, you couldn't possibly get a human to agree to being tested and experimented on (although it has happened in the past with minorities, almost simultaneously and against their will.) However, I am for the experiments made on INVASIVE species of animals, rodents, and other animals who pose a serious documented and evaluated threat to the population and the earth. But animals, who deserve their second chances at life like humans, no.

It is definitely something that should not be legal, I don't think any way you look at it it's an okay thing to do, most animals die, or become sick and very ill, deformed, or loose hearing, site, voice, and fur. They think it's okay to test on animals because they are merely animals and have no say. They don't choose to be test objects, they breathe, eat and sleep just like normal people. They feel, they have feelings. Things hurt them - you wouldn't want to be going through strange, painful testings, so why would you let some innocent animal do it? It's unfair and cruel. It should most definitely be illegal because they never did anything to us. Killing animals and abusing them, testing on them, is just as bad as anything else. They don't do anything to deserve this cruel, cruel thing. So I definitely agree that it is something that should have never even started in the first place. And below were it says facts about animal testing, they're referring to medicine testing, and like physical/mental testing. Animals involved in cosmetic, beauty product testing are usually hurt or become ill in some way.

I think that sometimes it can be cruel, but without testing on animals it could be a bad thing! What if one of your favorite pets, lets say your dog for instance, breaks a leg or gets sick, and it needs some kind of medicine to help him/her. Or if you wanna get something for him/her, like a dog treat or some thing like that. I don't necessarily like animal labs but they help at the same time.

Testing on animals and whether or not it should be illegal is more of a personal opinion. Many people have different opinions on the subject and all of them are valid.

What people have to remember is that very little is tested on animals now, for cosmetics or other uses. What individuals who wish to make it illegal tend to forget is that the tests are for treatments doctors use to save lives. Cancer treatments tested on animals have cured fatal illnesses, and given people many more years with their families. Tests on polio and other neurological conditions have given so many sufferers new hope. Almost no cosmetics are tested on animals anymore. Almost all testing on animals is done in the name of medical research. It would be difficult to ban it altogether because of the significance of the cures it provides.

Most life saving medications, surgeries and techniques were tested on animals before being tested on people. Researchers now use computers to test the outcome, but in some cases still require a live creature. Very few are hurt.

Animal testing is a very careful process now, and include life-saving drugs and procedures. Animals are no longer treated cruelly. They receive physical and mental stimulation, human interaction, plenty of room and the best health care, as is now required by law. Some animals are able to be adopted such as dogs and cats and some lab rats once the experiments are finished.

Animals that have given their lives to perfecting medical treatments and that have helped save and improve lives, should be honored and respected for saving our loved ones. Experiments with animals shouldn't be illegal. While cosmetics experiments on animals aren't necessary, many of the experiments for medical research are beneficial to your daily life. (Insulin for diabetics is one example.) There is a perfectly good reason why experiments on animals are done. And why many of the tests are legal, if inhumane. Yet, it should not be acceptable to hurt or kill animals for cosmetic reasons.

Tests on animals provide direct information on how chemicals, drugs, and procedures affect living tissue. Laboratory rats have died by the untold millions to tell us what is safe for people. The extreme injuries and potential fatalities are justified by their value in medical research. These must be tested before use on an ailing human being.

I think it should be illegal because the animals don't like it and we wouldn't like it if it were us. I definitely think its cruel and mean! I think it should be illegal because many of the animals die. OK some animals live, but some don't, so it should be!

Yes it should be illegal. Animals have feelings. Just because they stand on four legs doesn't mean they don't feel what humans feel. They feel what we feel; it would be like doing experiments on humans. Some people even treat an animal as their own child, so it would be like abusing your own child. Just because they hold back the urge to cry out in pain, that doesn't mean they aren't suffering.

Animals have five freedoms : The freedom from discomfort, the freedom to shelter, the freedom to food and water, the freedom to proper hygiene, and most importantly the freedom to be loved. Experiments on animals should be illegal because they can feel things too. How would you like to be tested on?

No, because by doing experiments on animals, people can come up with medications and other things which could also save the lives of more animals.

My opinion is (no testing) because I sort of think it's inhumane- Animals NEED to be free... not in a cage. Like the person above said "How would you like to be tested on?". I certainly wouldn't like it... would you like it if YOU were put in a cage or be tested on? No matter how much they reproduce, it will never be the same for them.

Well, if we tested on humans, that would be kinda stupid. We wouldn't know what would happen, and they might die. It all depends on how you look at it. If we tested on humans and they die, the dead persons family might sue the testers. But a lot of animals are going extinct. i think we should test things on the most populated animals. Most people think we should test things on monkeys, but they are very low in population compared to like birds, and rats and mice. It will help if we didn't test so many things on animals. Maybe a couple every four to five months!

Animal testing is used merely to help animals. Would you rather have a few animals die, and a few other go through slight discomfort, or a million animals die, and many of them will have children crying for "their doggie"? I am not saying testing for makeup, perfume, etc is good, but as far as I know, it's not a common practice anymore. I believe we should start focusing our time more on things much more serious, like slavery in India. In fact, there are three-yearolds that all they do all day is stitch baseballs, which usually are shipped to America, to you. You, in a way, are a slave owner, paying companies that buy supplies from slave owners. Animal testing maybe should be regulated, but stopped completely? Not a good idea. Animals help us try to treat things like cancer, and just by studying behavior we are attempting to decode autistic behavior. Animal testing is almost necessary. But also, shouldn't we be focusing on something bigger? Like wars that are raging around us without our knowing, slavery that we support, or even global warming? A few companies, yes, do horrible testing, but should we let a few of those bad apples spread maggots to the rest of the pile? If we want to fight for some animal cause, however, why don't we fight against puppy farms, cock fighting, or poaching?

1. It's impossible to know exactly how many animals are being used in research because U.S. laws do not require scientists to report how many mice, rats, or birds they use, but it's estimated that 90% of lab animals are mice and rats. The animals that scientists do have to report using in experiments include dogs, cats, sheep, hamsters, guinea pigs, and primates. Of the animals that the USDA collects numbers on, 1,438,553 were used in research in 2002.

   Since more than 1.4 million mammals other than rats and mice were used in research, and since mice and rats probably make up 90% of the animals in labs, we can guess that about 14 million rats and mice were used in research in 2002.

2. In labs, small animals, like hamsters, rats and mice, are usually kept in clear or white plastic boxes about the size of a shoebox. Animals a bit bigger, such as guinea pigs, live in larger boxes about twice the size of a shoebox. Usually, more than one animal lives in a box. Larger animals like dogs, cats, and primates usually live in wire cages. Most animals stay in their cages all the time except when they are being used in experiments.

• PARIS hiLTON Absolutely! There is no shred of evidence that testing animals is the same as testing humans for human medications or treatments for diseases. Although it may appear that Animal Rights, Shelters or the ASPCA or SPCA (in Canada) are ahead of the game animal testing is STILL going on behind closed lab doors. I worked out at the University in British Columbia during the 1960's and could hear the dogs and cats moans, groans, yelping and it made my blood run cold. It's inhumane and no one has the right to take a defensive animal and test on them. Several of us started a petition, went to the SPCA and won! Still, it continued, but more secretly. If you want testing done go to the prisons! It was several years ago that many inmates at their own request would be the guinea pigs for certain medications or testings of other sorts for diseases. Some inmates wanted to pay back society and others (lesser crimes) would be pardoned should they survive. NO PRISONER should EVER be forced to become a human experiment and should do it of their own volition. Rats, dogs, cats, birds, monkeys, etc., DO NOT have the same genetic make up as human beings and are often given much larger doses of whatever the lab tech is working on when that same dose wouldn't harm a human being.

YES! Animal experimentation should be illegal.

Animals have a heart and a mind just like people do. They are capable of feeling love and pain, happiness and sorrow. But, because they are not able to speak to us and tell us how they feel many people forget that they are capable of having these feelings. That is why they are often hurt or neglected. And most of the experiments, are not effective on humans like they are on animals, for example: chocolate is highly poisionos to dogs, but we don't die when we eat chocolate.

This is a highly charged and emotional debate, and most people have a strongly held opinion on this. I will do my best to present both sides below.

The argument for animal testing is that it provides valuable scientific knowledge that cannot be gathered in any other way. Although cell culture, computer modeling and statistical analysis can be used in place of animals in some experiments, there is currently no adequate substitute for animal testing for novel drugs and vaccines. As of about 2010, it is estimated that the average life expectancy for people in the United States has been extended for over 20 years due to animal-based research. Also, it is considered to be more ethical to test new drugs and vaccines on animals to have an idea of safety and efficacy prior to giving these drugs and vaccines to humans.

The argument against animal testing is that it is unethical - it causes pain and suffering to animals and in many cases the animals will not be able to benefit from the research. There is also the argument that animal research does not provide useful information, generally with the example of thalidomide which was considered safe in animal testing but caused significant developmental abnormalities in humans.

There is a lot more information on this debate, including rebuttals from both sides against the other side's arguments. However; to decide what you think is the right answer you should know the issues.

1. Often animal testing allows us to determine if a medicine is toxic to organic, carbon based life forms (such as humans and animals). By using animal testing human lives can be protected.

2. We eat many different types of animals. Before deciding whether animal testing is moral and what is not, perhaps we should decide whether EATING animals is right or wrong.

3. Humans have been eating animals for as long as there have been humans. Without animal protein, the human race would probably not have survived.

Second answer:The opinions are different about this. Some people believe it should and others don't.
There are a lot of animal rights activists who are upset because cosmetics and drugs are tested on them, but in actuality it is safer that way. I would rather have a medicine tested on a lab rat than have one of my family members die from using an untested medicine.
