Absolutely. The same applies to the Groom who wants his Dad to be the Best Man. Often times, siblings are used in these wedding party positions - no reason that parents can't be included, too.
Listing your Mom as the "Matron" is correct ... matron refers to a married person, where "maid" refers to one who is not married.

You do not ask to be a bridesmaid. It is up to the bride to choose who she wants in her wedding party such as maid of honor and bridesmaids.

It depends how the wedding is organized and if the bride wants them to travel with them they will but they definitely follow the bride down the aisle.
