Best Answer

The speed of sound in air changes clearly with temperature, a little bit with humidity - but not with air pressure (atmospheric pressure).

The words "sound pressure at sea level" are incorrect and misleading in the case of "speed of sound". The temperature indication, however, is absolutely necessary.

In SI units with dry air at 20°C (68 °F), the speed of sound c is 343 m/s.

This also equates to 1235 km/h, 767 mph, 1125 feet per second (ft/s), or 666 knots.

There is no special name for the speed of sound at graound level, because the ground level and every other air pressure high up in the mountain has nothing to do with the speed of sound.

Forget the sea level. Speed of sound has nothing to do with height.

The temperature is important for the speed of sound.

At 20° Celsius the speed of sound is 343 m/s.

What is the Velocity of air at sea level?

The speed of sound in air has really nothing to do with the sea level and its atmospheric pressure. Speed of sound is dependent on the temperature. Look at the link: "Speed of Sound in Air and the effective Temperature".

Does sound travels faster through air?

sound travels faster through water. it is also affected by temperature and sea level. the speed of sound or mach 1 is reached roughly around 744 MPH plus the Mass of the object that is traveling at that speed.

What factors affect the speed of sound in air?

The speed of sound in air at 20 degrees Celsius (68 degrees Fahrenheit) is 343 metres per second. That is 1126.5 feet per second. Notice: The speed of sound changes with temperature and a little bit with humidity − but not with air pressure (atmospheric pressure). The words "sound pressure at sea level" are incorrect and misleading. The temperature indication, however, is absolutely necessary.

The speed of sound at sea level is 340.29 miles per second.

What is mach2?

Mach 1 is the relative speed of sound through air. Relative because the speed of sound varies with air density. At sea level the speed of sound is about 740 miles per hour. Mach 2 is then twice the speed of sound.
