you Power Steering fluid may be low, if that was the case then you would have lowerd hydrolic power to steer the wheels and have to compensate by using more force...which may be why your steering is stiff.

if its a vectra b (95 -01) then its under the steering wheel there is a recess you put your hand in and pull it. on the cover you pulled off its stamped on there?
most probaily( breaks ) some thing to do with worn pads or discs
you need to take the car to garage . its normally a dead lambda or o2 sensor . easy fix
my was falt in drivers seat belt but there are heaps of other things that can bring this problem up

My Vectra did this a few times. It was diagnosed as a fault caused by the ABS unit. A main dealer tried various mods then changed the whole module. That cured it. I don't what it cost as it was under warranty.
