Stomach acid or gastric acid is a strong acid. Gastric acid is secretion produced in the stomach. It is one of the main ditotonic soloutions secreted, together with several enzymes and intrinsic factors. Chemically it is an acid solution with a pH of 1 to 2 in the stomach lumen, consisting mainly of hydrochloric acid (HCl) (around 0.5%, or 5000 parts per million), and large quantities of potassium chloride (KCl) and sodium chloride (NaCl).

Hydrochloric Acid is considered strong and fully ionized when in aqueous solution with a very low pH. It is a strong acid because it is a strong electrolyte. It is a strong electrolyte because when it is dissolved in water, almost all of the H+ ions will ionize and become surrounded by water molecules. A weak acid will only have a small fraction of H+ ions.
