In The Pearl, Kino becomes tempted when he finds the pearl. He immediately thinks of all the things in his life that will be improved from finding this pearl. He refuses to sell the pearl to the dealers (because they don't offer him a decent price). The pearl ends up causing a bunch of trouble, but Kino is blinded by the thought of a better life for his family. Finally, after much destruction, he overcomes his temptation and throws the pearl into the sea.

Kino finds the pearl in chapter 2 and he plans to do allot of things with the pearl.

Answer

He finds the pearl after Coyotito becomes sick with scorpion poison. The doctor refuses to see Coyotito because they have no money. Hoping to earn money or find another solution, they go pearl diving as usual. When diving, Kino finds a large oyster with the pearl shining through a crack in the oyster, and he cuts it out and takes it back to the boat. I remember he opened it and began to scream with joy.

Kino attempted to sell the pearl he found to the people on the other side of the town. However, the pearl-buyers were linked and working together, and Kino could tell that all of the pearl-buyers were making low, false prices for the pearl. In order to sell his pearl for its fair price, Kino decided to go to the Capital, where the pearl-buyers would not invent low prices for something valuable.
