Check the following...............
1. Freon levels.
2. Clutch to hub air gap.
3. Pressure switch.
4. A/C controller.
5. A/C clutch wire harness
low freon
Probably low on charge.
You should have the system checked for the proper amount of freeon. The compressor will not properly engage if the system is low. Hope this helps.
It is an air operated clutch triggered by a solenoid. The ECM, A/C, and the solenoid control this. If one is faulty it will stay engaged.
No, this is not normal. The compressor should only run when the A/C or Defrost is turned on. The compressor should be inspected to see if the air gap between the clutch hub and the pulley is set correctly. The air gap should be set to the recommended OEM specification. The air gap should be spaced evenly around the pulley/clutch hub area. If the gap is closer on one side of the clutch than the other, the compressor may be damaged and should not be used. This condition could keep the compressor engaged constantly. The compressor could stay on if the electrical circuit, a black wire, gains a ground some place other than the Power Module. This circuit should be checked for proper grounds before going any farther. This system also has the possibility of a malfunction in the Power module, which can cause the compressor to stay engaged with the switch in the OFF position. When the wiring diagram is examined, look at the brown wire, is the power lead coming from a 25A fuse. This wire should have battery voltage when the key is in the RUN position. The Black wire is grounded through the Power Module. You may also have a defective Power Module, or in rare instances a defective power switch for the A/C.
DOES THE COMPRESSOR CLUTCH STAY ENGAGED OR DOES IT CYCLE ON AND OFF. ON AND OFF MEANS ITS TRYING TO BUILD UP PRESSURE,BUT WITH LOW OR NO REFRIGERANT IT WON'T COOL.SO THE FIRST THING TO CHECK IS THE PRESSURE. YOU CAN PICK UP A GAGE AT AN AUTO STORE FOR ABOUT 7-10 DOLLARS.THERE COULD BE A BAD LOW PRESSURE SWITCH ON THE SYSTEM.MAKE SURE YOU ARE CHECKING THE LOW SIDE THATS THE ONE THAT GOES TO THE ACCUMULATOR. GOOD LUCK PAUL G
Depending on weather it has a cable or hyd. clutch it could be your slave cyld. is stuck or is low on oil. It is cable the linkage might be stuck or your cable is broken or out of adjustment.
You've lost enough freon so that the pressure safety switch will not let the compressor stay on. Just need to add a can of freon.
Because you are low on freon or bad pressure switch will also stop compressor to stay on.
Had the same problem with my 92 cutlass ciera. It turned out to be ac compressor. Probably the clutch.
The most common reason would be that you are low of R-134a. The best way to determine this is to use a gauge and get the PSI reading. (This should be done when the compressor is running and the clutch is engaged). Most auto parts stores are willing to help you get a reading. If you are indeed low of R-134a you need to fill your system to the correct PSI level. (This is determined by the current ambient temperature) If the compressor is not running you could fill the system with one can of R-134a, the compressor should start short cycling. If it doesn't do not put anymore R-134a in and seek professional help.
The compressor will stay running only because there is a leak in the air system somewhere and the compressor is trying to play catch up.It will burn out if left to run continuously ...
