By careful manipulation of the vent it is possible to vent-sex all ducks, geese and swans, but it is not easy. At a few weeks old, when they are feathered, the females will start to quack (only females of any species of duck quack). If you pick them up and gently but firmly tap their chest with two fingers, you can often get the females to quack - not quacking does not make it a male though.
