The numbers are (x) and (x+2).
Their squares are (x)2 and (x+2)2, or (x2) and (x2 + 4x + 4).
The difference between the squares is (x2 + 4x + 4) - (x2) = 4x + 4 = 48
4x + 4 = 48
x + 1 = 12
x = 11 and (x + 2) = 13
