A violation of ethics may also be a violation of laws, but not necessarily. Ethics may be personal as well as collective, and laws are intended to apply to people collectively. Ethics may vary among people and institutions, and laws are supposed to apply equally. All ethics are ethical, not all laws are ethical.

∙ 13y agoLaws are the rules that govern us all, ethics is the study of the "appropriate" behaviour for a given situation, usually relating to morals. Laws are made to be unambiguous and reflect the "ethics" of the society in which they apply. Ethics are not always black and white and as such could never be enforced as "law". It is the difference between science and philosophy.
