The first battle fought in England in 1066 was that of Fulford, fought on September 20th, between a Norsemen army, led by King Harold III Hardrada of Norway and his ally Tostig, the half brother of King Harold II of England, and an an English army from Mercia and Northumbria led by the earls Edwin and Morcar. The English were defeated and routed.
