The cabon atom is special to life because without carbon it would not be possible to form carbon dioxide (CO2), and without the ability to exhale CO2 and for plants to take in CO2 to produce oxygen, life will be unsestainable, and it will break the cycle between plants and other organisms (humans, animals, etc.)
