Many of the 'social' problems in India are tied to the religion of the area. The outdated but still in effect Caste System is a lingering, outdated, problem that many 'modern' Indians are still reluctant to discuss. India's' emergence as an economic force, but its inability to enrich and elevate large masses of its population is an indicator to the unaddressed problems it has and its indifference to do anything about them. In its development and growth, it has gone from a colony to a 'what's in it for me' independent country.
