The sun maintains the levels of ozone in our atmosphere by creating O3 molecules out of O2 molecules that are in the air naturally. When the sun is unable to hit this layer, as it does each year at both poles, you get a thinning of this layer we refer to as the hole in the ozone layer.
This hole lasts for about the same time as this solar nights at each pole and it's location is due to the tilt of the planet. Once the sun starts to hit this area again, the "hole" quickly disappears. The current hole in the Southern Hemisphere is larger then the northern one due to the distance from our sun during the full orbit of our planet.
See "What would happen if the ozone layer vanished?"
The process that causes CFC's to damage the ozone layer is called depletion. It is happening in the ozone.
The ozone layer happens by UV rays. They decompose and replenish it.
The ozone is created in atmosphere by ozone cycle. It helps in maintaining the quantity of ozone layer.
The animals will extinct. If there is a hole in ozone layer.
Ozone depletion is the process where ozone holes are created in the ozone layer. It is caused due to the action of chloro-floro-carbons on the ozone molecule to break it down to oxygen.
Ozone depletion is the process where ozone holes are created in the ozone layer. It is caused due to the action of chloro-floro-carbons on the ozone molecule to break it down to oxygen. The substances that are causing ozone layer depletion are freons, CFC's etc.. These are called as ozone-depleting substances (ODS).
Ozone is continually made by the Sun. Ozone made at Earth's surface does not survive to reach the ozone layer.
When ozone increases, it acts as a pollutant. It is called bad ozone.
The ozone layer does not do any harm. So there is no point protecting earth from it.
if the ozone layer didn't exist the earth wouldn't either.....
The hole in the ozone layer happen to be closer to the poles. It is because the ozone depletion occurs in very low temperatures which can only be obtained at the poles.
