The force of friction is determined by the coefficient of friction (a value of "stickiness" given due to the roughness of an object's surface, the surface area and shape of the interface between the objects, etc) and the normal force (N) which is the opposing force (of the object's weight, for example) and is tangental to the frictional force.

What are two factors affect the force of friction?

The 2 factors on which friction two body is depended uponThe mass of the body, the coefficient of Static or limiting or dynamic friction( as the case may be)Gravity too.

Which force is responsible for wear and tear of machinery?

Friction is the main force that is responsible for the wear and tear of machinery, this is why mechanicalæparts are sometimesæoiled, to minimize the friction.

What are the three main driving forces of air motion?

Pressure Gradient Force Coriolis Force Friction Force Pressure Gradient Force Coriolis Force Friction Force

What can be done to reduce the effect of friction?

Friction on a moving body is dependent on two basic factors and it can be represented as follows Friction force = (Coefficient of friction between the moving surfaces)*( Normal Force between the surfaces) Reducing any or both of the two factors reduce friction. Coefficient of friction can be reduced by: 1. Making the surfaces smoother.(effective for moving bodies in gas, liquid, or on solid/semisolid surfaces) 2. Applying 'Lubricant'. (effective for bodies moving on solid/semisolid surfaces) The normal force can be reduced for bodies in gas and liquids by reducing the press of the medium. (Hence vacuum and high altitude offer less friction than sea level for space crafts). Reduction of the normal force between solid bodies is not practical for machines since this will entirely alter their usefulness. But of course friction couplings, brakes etc use variation of normal force as main criteria for their operation.

Why does the height of a ball decrease every time it hits the ground?

The height of the bounce decreases because of many factors but two main factors are gravity and friction. * * * * * Gravity has nothing to do with the decrease in height. The two main factors are friction and the fact that the collision is not elastic.

What are the main factors on which friction depends?

the amount of friction depends on the type of surfaces that are rubbing against each other. when surfaces are smooth, they move against each other more easily. friction is greater between rough surfaces. in order to reduce friction in the moving parts of machines, scientists and engineers use oil and other lubricants. these lubricants make the surface smoother.
