The magnet is the stator part of the motor,either as a permanent or an electromagnet.It doldrums the rotor past of the motor towards it causing the rotation.
A pulley can either change the direction or the force, but not both. Since a single fixed pulley makes an object go up when pulled down, it has changed direction. So it can't also change force.

You can't. All single phase motors can only rotate in the direction in which they were manufactured. That is either clockwise or counter-clockwise. Only three phase motors can be reversed by changing the connections. Most ceiling fans have two sets of wiring in their motors so that a direction switch determines which way the fan rotates.
I think its a feel good thing, either hot air moving out of the attic turns the turbine, or wind, but either way, the turbine is outside, it is not connected to a fan inside, so just a straight opening with the same amount of square inches would vent as well,

The turntable in a microwave oven is driven by an alternating current motor which may start in either direction at random and continues to travel in that direction until stopping. The reason for using a turntable in a microwave oven is that the microwave energy is not evenly distributed across the oven. The turntable allows the food to receive an equal amount of energy by turning across the uneven microwave field. The microwave energy is turned to heat within the food. They are either powered by a turbine engine like a jet engine or a piston engine.
YOU HAVE TO DRIVE IT TO HELL AND BACK Most likely either the wires to the vehicle/turbine speed sensor are broken or the vehicle/turbine speed sensor is defective
