Actually, or rather technically, Canada is a COMMONWEALTH. That means we are actually under the umbrella of whichever commonwealth we belong to, which in Canada's case is Great Britain. So they do have claim, to a very small degree, on Canadian soil. During Trudeau's last time in office he did try to get this 'technicality' removed, and to all appearances had succeeded, but to no avail. Canada remains a Commonwealth. As for Another Country having rights we kicked their butts out of this country a few hundred years ago for that belief. Since that time France has had absolutely no claim nor have they even suggested that they did. Everybody does remember the BNA of 1867 ? For you morons, that's the British North American Act signed by our friends in England. The last time I looked we still had a Governor General in Ottawa whom IS STILL THE MONARCH'S REPRESENTATIVE IN CANADA. So for my friend who wrote the first answer, may I suggest a reread of any history book?

The above answer was not written by some one familiar with Canadian history or politics. We have many different histories and views but that is not likely one of them. If it is, it is unique because:
Canada is not a Commonwealth.
Canada is a member of the Commonwealth, an intergovernmental organisation of many countries with a historical connection to the British Empire. That includes but it is not run or claimed by the UK or Britain.
The many Royal references in our political system are purely ceremonial. Britain, and it's political or monarchical systems have no actual role in Canadian politics.
If any one attempted to use these ceremonial roles for anything other than ceremony it would create a negative political response from the Democratically elected Canadian government.
One of our recent Governor Generals did try to take on the authority of Canadian Head of State but was quietly taken aside and told that her role was purely ceremonial. She did back down but if she had persisted it could have created a Constitutional crisis or backlash that would see a massive change to such confusing ceremonial roles.
Canada has renamed the BNA to the Constitution Act, 1867 without asking Britain for permission.
As for other countries claims in Canada they are many. The United States has claimed and taken quite a bit of Canada over the years. They currently claim some our of Northern Territories and some of our territorial waters.
Greenland claims one of our Islands.
And Russia, as well as others claim our North Pole.
Historical claims come from Britain, France, Spain, Russia, the United States and others.
The French and British both had extensive land claims in Canada (leaving out the other obvious group, the native tribes).
The_two_European_Countries_that_claimed_lands_what_iS_now_Canada">The two European Countries that claimed lands what iS now Canada#1 So the answer that i am going to give you it is the correct answer because i had this answer on my history chapter test and i got it correct the answer is Asia and Africa. There are more countries but the question asks for only two so i gave you two. There you have it your answer to your question.#2 The previous answer listed continents, not countries.. I am not sure why they got this right on their history test, in fact in makes me quite concerned with the school system he/she uses. Great Britain and France both claimed lands in modern day Canada, which are countries.#3 Technically Great Britain is not a country (Great Britain is an island within the United Kingdom [the United Kingdom is an area containing Northern Ireland and Great Britain] and Great Britain contains the COUNTRIES of England, Scotland and Wales) but I'm sure that in grade school tests Great Britain and France would be the acceptable answers.
