Water tables are the underground boundary between the water saturated rock and soil layer and the unsaturated or dry rock and soil layer. Where a water table intersects the surface a lake, pond, river, stream, spring, etc. forms on the surface at the same level as the water table. A well is made by digging a hole down to below the water table at that location and the bottom of that hole will fill with water to the same level as the water table.

∙ 6y agoThe water table is found underground. The water table is the level underground where water can be reached by well or pump. It is the water in the ground. It is replenished by rainfall. It is naturally depleted by water flowing underground to underground streams flowing downhill eventually leading to bodies of water. It is also depleted by people drawing water from the ground as with wells. To many people can overdeplete ground water reducing the water table making it harder or more expensive to get water from lower levels.
