Yellowing of the eye could be associated with a condition known as "jaundice." At the most basic level, the yellowing is caused by an increase in a compound known as bilirubin in the blood. This isn't in itself a disease, but a sign of some underlying medical problem. Common conditions associated with jaundice include the excessive breakdown of red blood cells, sickle cell anemia, severe infection (malarial, etc.), liver disease, pancreatitis, and gallstones. Jaundice should ALWAYS be evaluated by a physician to identify the underlying issue.
Now, if only ONE eye is turning yellow, the underlying condition may only be isolated to that one eye, as in the case of unusual breakdown of red blood cells in this one particular eye. Regardless, this should be evaluated by a physician as soon as possible.

∙ 11y agoYellowing of the white of your eye (in medical terms this is scleral icterus) is generally a result of either liver disease or blood disease. It is caused by breakdown products of old and damaged red blood cells overwhelming the liver's ability to process them. One of these breakdown products is a yellow color, and it gets laid down in the body tissues. Since the yellow color shows up well when inserted into the white tissue of the eye, it is often seen there.
Either the liver is unable to process the damaged red blood cells properly (which could be cirrhosis, cancer, hepatitis or some other degeneration or infection), or there are too many damaged red blood cells (which could be a blood infection, blood parasite, bleeding disorder or splenic disease).
