Being very careful, drill a small hole in the middle of the broken petcock. Using a tool called an easy out, you should be able to back out the broken off part. Take care not to drill sideways and hit the radiator threads.
To remove a radiator from a 1997 Toyota Tacoma the truck needs to be cooled down. The coolant needs to be drained, and loosen the radiator mounts. When everything is loosen remove the radiator.
What do you wish to do, drain the coolant or remove trapped air from the system? To drain coolant, there usually is a drain valve located at the base of one of the radiator tanks, there is one tank on each side of the radiator. If it is not there or broken, just remove the lower radiator hose, ENGINE COLD ONLY.
If you have a 4.3 vortec,Locate and open radiator drain plug into container. (apx 3 gallons) Remember antifreeze is posion!!! Remove radiator cap. Loosen intake hose clamp, Loosen the two wing nuts on the plastic part of the air intake atached to the top of the radiator and remove. Loosen the radiator clamps and remove the hoses from the radiator. Loosen the two transmission lines.(DO NOT BEND if possible) Remove the two bolted clamps on the top. Carefully lift straight up and out. When replacing, be carefull not to cross-thread the transmission lines.
Remove the lower radiator hose or loosen the radiator drain.
Drain the radiator, disconnect all hoses from the radiator, remove the fan shroud, loosen all radiator mounting brackets, remove the radiator. Replacement is the opposite order.
Replace the bleeder valve. On vehicles equipped with a bleeder valve it is imperative you use the bleeder to remove trapped air. No other procedure will remove all the trapped air. On cars without a bleeder, you simply remove the radiator cap and start the engine. Watch until all air bubbles have escaped. This will not be sufficient on your car. Failure to remove all trapped air, will lead to a hot spot and possible engine damage.
Jack up, remove rear wheel, remove emergency brake cable, loosen bleeder valve and bleed as normal.
Drain off the radiator coolant into a clean drain pan. Loosen radiator hose clamps. Remove radiator hose. Install in reverse order.
Even easier way is to remove the cap on top and loosen the drain plug on the bottom. --- easiest way to drain radiator, is to disconnect the bottom radiator hose from the radiator
The radiator is held in by a couple screws. Just loosen the fan shroud (4 screws), remove your hoses and lines, and lift it out.
Radiator Removal: Remove the under cover. Remove the radiator cap, loosen the drain cock, and drain coolant into a container. Remove upper and lower radiator hoses. Disconnect coolant reservoir tank hose. Remove the fresh air duct. When installing fresh air duct, tighten bolts to 89 lb-in (10 N·m). Remove the five shroud bolts. Remove the radiator bracket bolts and lift the radiator upward. Send the entire radiator to a radiator repair shop for repair. :)
remove the drain plug on the bottom of your radiator, this wil drain all the coolant. then put the drain plug back in, remove radiator cap on top and refill the RADIATOR (not overflow tank)with 50/50 mixed coolant (the green kind). When it's full put the radiator cap back on and put some coolant in the overflow tank. start the car and follow the upper radiator hose until you find the bleeder bolt (its a 10 or 12mm bolt i believe with a hole in top) attach a clear hose to the bleeder bolt and loosen it a bit. you'll see coolant start to flow out and it will have bubbles in it. when the bubbles stop, tighten the bleeder bolt and your coolant system has been properly bled. (keep an eye on coolant level in overflow tank while you do this, if it runs out you have to bleed again) bleeding the system removes air and keeps makes cooling more effective.
