Look just below the water pump to see if any antifreeze is visible. Water pumps will sometimes leak and drip out antifreeze. Check the engine oil to see if antifreeze is mixed with the oil, indicating a blown head gasket.
It could be but most likely the engine is overheating. Could also be that the cap is not holding pressure and needs to be replaced.
Overheating the engine shouldn't effect the transmission. Overheating the transmission could.
you could be low on coolant
It is possible that the gasket could leak between cylinders. The overheating and coolant loss would happen if the gasket was failing around the coolant passages.
If it's overheating, it cold be thermostat, radiator or possibly other problems. If it's not overheating it could be the coolant level sensor.
The coolant temp. sensor could be bad....or the thermostat could be stuck shut.....there are a few things it could be actually
Could be from a variety of things. Commonly overheating occurs when the car is low on coolant, broke thermostat or the radiator needs repairs.

It could just be that the water pump is not properly working. Have you checked all the could-be causes for your car overheating if not then do so.
could be cylinder head gasket gone

Overheating of the reactor fuel rods could damage the zircaloy sheaths and enable gaseous fission products to enter the reactor coolant stream. This alone would not be dangerous, but if a loss of coolant had caused the overheating then this could release activity into the secondary containment. What would follow from this depends on the individual design of the plant.
