Yes you will need the dsl for vonage

DSL Extreme has a deal with Verizon where you do not have to have a landline to get DSL. Other providers like AT&T offer DSL without a landline to limited markets. If you choose Cable internet, you do not need a landline at all.

Windstream has always been 2 wire connection. They might be making a 4 wire connection but they do not have it out yet.

Accroding to DSL Reports, the best US DSL providers are Embarq and AT&T, though there's not much difference between them. Don't bother with Windstream or Earthlink, since they have bad reviews.

Yes, I was able to watch ESPN360 on Windstream broadband at 8pm on 10-3-09. The service was added very recently, because I experienced an unsuccessful attempt to watch a game 2 weeks ago.

If you only have a single pair of wires coming into your house, another pair has to be added. Most homes have a cable with 2 pairs of wires, enough to allow you to have two phone lines, or a phone line and a DSL connection. If there is something wrong with one of the pairs, say it is broken somewhere, they may have to run and additional line.
What is the difference between mobile broadband and DSL?
Mobile broandband uses the same airwaves to transmit data as cellphones do. DSL uses a regular landline phone line to transmit data.

Yes, you can right now. They started offering the "naked" DSL option (i.e. no home phone service required) sometime in the last half of 2009. No clue dsl option
