they are these huge drum-like instruments that just add different effects to the music/ piece The timpani (aka kettle drums) can be tuned to specific pitches. Usually a set of two or three of these will be standard fare in a larger orchestra. The 'kettle's' are usually constructed out of brass, and can be quite expensive.
It would be easier to answer what instruments are a part of a standard drum kit as there are hundreds and maybe thousands of percussion instruments. A standard drum kit consists of a Bass drum, snare drum, toms, ride cymbal, crash cymbal, and high-hat. Other percussion instruments not part of a standard drumset are timpani, bells, cowbell, congas, bongos, tambourine, roto-toms, and the list goes on and on.
The instrumentation of the piece consists of two flutes and piccolo, two oboes, two clarinets and bass clarinet, three bassoons and contrabassoon (or contrabass sarrusophone), four horns, two trumpets, two cornets, three trombones, timpani, glockenspiel, bass drum, cymbals, triangle, harp and strings.
The xylophone and timpani are two examples.
The four basic percussion are:Cymbals, which are two circular metal disks played by crashing them togetherBass drum, which is big circular drum played by a beaterTriangle, a piece of metal bent into the shape of triangle, which makes a small bell like sound when struck by a metal beaterAnd the fourth could be:Tam-Tam, another name for the Gong, OrXylophone, wooden bars played by string with a stick
Broadly speaking, timpani (pl) is a member of the percussion
The main two categories of percussion instruments are tuned and untuned percussion.Tuned percussion: Timpani, glockenspiel, xylophone, marimbaUntuned percussion: Drums, Cymbals, Woodblock, maracas, bongos, triangle, tambourine.
A bass drum, is played with a mallet, or foot pedal, and is the one note, it is tuned to. A Timpani drum, has a pedal, that when pressed, tightens the head, and changes the note of the drum.....probably about an octave, or less.
silver coated wings is a two man "christian rock" band involving two Stowell Boys (Patrick & Derick Stowell) (i think there is a drum player, but i don't know really) I think the drum player is from "last days" So I guess it would be Timothy Gus
