use a ruller or level and set it across the top of the forks i would probally put the front tire on first
I had the same problem. The problem is caused by a ball that keeps the 2 forks locked in their respective position. I took the transfer case apart and found this problem. You can unlock the forks by using a screwdriver in 1 of the slots of just one of the forks and forcing it to unlock, it will take some force to do this, but is easier than taking apart the transfer case.
Shift pattern from neutral is 1 down, 5 up.
The Shift Solenoid is located on the gear shift selector housing. Hope This Helps. Mike

Ebay has a seller (SouthWest Gear) i just bought some shift forks from them the 1-2 and 3-4 forks they run about 40 bucks each.You can google the repair/install instructions if you arent familiar with them.Good Luck.
There is allways someone to contact if your supervisor is not available. You have to find out who that is.
The transmission forks are possibly bent or worn. If the forks are giving a problem then the transmission will have to be rebuilt or replaced.
