The commercial side of Christmas is noticed here.

You can see Christmas lights in some cities and towns.

They play a lot of popular Christmas Music songs.

Christmas Cake is very important in Japan.

Some people know it is a Christian festival, but they do not know much about it (the religious side of Christmas).

Christmas is mainly for lovers being together on a White Christmas Day.

New Years is more important that Christmas in Japan.

Christmas is not a national holiday in Japan. However, commercialism has inspired a secular "celebration" in terms of the consumption of commercial goods. One unique feature of Christmas in Japan is the Japanese type of Christmas cake, often a white whipped cream cake with strawberries.

Japan is Shinto/Buddhist so Christmas to them does not have much religious meaning but, most homes have a plastic Christmas tree and a lot of the stores have Christmas trees and decorations. Some times in the city centre they have a big Christmas tree or they put up lights. Santa comes for the children but, they only get one present under their pillow. On Christmas Eve for couples its like a valentines day as they may go to a restraurant and give gifts to each other. Most people normally work on Christmas day and the meal is not traditional turkey but, just a meal. They normally go to KFC a place where you can have chicken and chips/ fries. Their Christmas cake is not fruit but, has 2 layers and then has a Santa glazed on top.

Most Japanese follow either the Shinto or Buddhist religion. As non-christians, they would not celebrate Christmas. Japanese Christians would celebrate in much the same way you do.
