The firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 and the distributor turns clockwise. If you look at your distributor, under the rotor somewhere, you should find a mark (usually a 1) that indicates where the rotor should point, and therefore, where the #1 spark plug wire should go, for the #1 position. Your cylinders are numbered from front to rear on the driver's side, 1-3-5-7, and on the passenger side, from front to rear, 2-4-6-8. do you have a picture

The 1987 Chevy Celebrity has distributor less ignition. The timing is controlled by the engine control module and there is no provision for adjustment.
I believe that one sits under the coil packs.

It is mounted on the distributor plate under the cap and rotor. On the right hand side of the distributor when looking at it. It will have electrical connectors plugged into it on both ends.
