Caesar was a dictator with delusions of godhood. Anyone who so much as complained about this, like the tribunes in the first scene of the play, were murdered without trial. Sure, lots of common folk thought he was great--that usually happens with this kind of dictator--but absolute Dictatorship is a system of government with problems. Brutus was descended from one of the men who freed Rome from the absolute dictatorship of the kings long ago, and replaced them with a republic. Although Caesar had always been his friend, he believed that he must be removed for the good of the country. It was not that he loved Caesar less, but that he loved Rome more.

No. He killed him because of pier pressure. The Senators wanted him dead and Brutus wanted to be a good Senator and fit in so he killed him.
