Toward the end of his second term; however, some Republicans who disliked the Federalist concept Washington espoused did begin to criricize and even call for him to step down, calling him King George IV.
At one point, however, he made concessions with the British Empire concerning land and where the British could build forts and such. Other figures, such as Samuel Adams and the like called for another war, but Washington knew that a war would destroy the new founded America, and so in secret signed a treaty with the British. Everyone hated him and demanded he be impeached, but it eventually died down. In retrospect, this was a good decision on Washingtons part.
