Jefferson City, Missouri's capital, was named to honor Thomas Jefferson. It was designated the state capital in 1821, but for the first 5 years of statehood, the legislature met in St. Charles, on the Missouri River near St. Louis.

No. St. Charles was the capital in 1821 when Missouri first became a state. The intention was always to establish a more centrally located capital, though, so it was shifted to Jefferson City permanently in 1826.
