Yes in fact he is widely regarded as one of the greatest in U.S. history. His two year and ten month presidency granted the country with everything except a longer term length. If Kennedy had served a full two terms he would have probably ended the Vietnam War much sooner and be ranked even higher on the various 'greatest presidents' rankings.

His most notable moment as president was probably the Cuban Missile Crisis in which he saved the innocent u.s. citizens from a nuclear Holocaust. Today however he is unfortunately most remembered for getting sniped in the head by God knows who.

Plus, he had the hottest first lady Ms. Jackie Bouvier and he also banged Marilyn Monroe.

Opinions vary.

While Kennedy was and is a popular president with the public, historians do not rate him especially highly. His tenure was too brief for him to have any kind of substantive impact on the United States, that short record was marred nonetheless by such catastrophes as the Bay of Pigs. Much of the most pivotal legislation of the period - the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the establishment of Medicare/Medicaid, etc., was passed after his assassination.

Most historians rate Kennedy a good president but by no means great. At the end of three years, his foreign policy reduced tensions between the US and USSR and and started detente between the two nations. His standing with the European allies was quite high. He improved the US's relations with emerging Third World nations in South America, Africa and Asia. Not withstanding the Bay of Pigs, Cuban Missile Crisis and an increased commitment to Vietnam, he successfully avoided war with the Soviet Union over over Berlin and Cuba and with communist insurgencies in Laos.

In domestic affairs, he advanced Civil Rights, ameliorating poverty. His economic policies led to a huge expansion of the economy in mid 1960s that helped the middle class and swelled federal revenue. that latter helped finance Lyndon Johnson's War on Poverty.

It is quite likely that had he survived to complete his first term, his legislative accomplishments would have been more significant, thus earning him a higher ranking among presidents. For a more detailed description of his domestic and foreign accomplishments, see the following post:
