Yes of course it was. Poland was a known ally of Great Britain and Hitler would never have imagined that an invasion would go without retaliation. British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain informed the Nazi's of this when they launched the invasion, and of the consequences of not pulling back troops. When Hitler chose to ignore this, he knowingly entered a war that was bound to pull in the whole of Europe, and as a direct result of Europe's widespread empires at the time would also inevitably spread around the globe.
