No. Romeo and Juliet were characters that William Shakespeare created. Shakespear made them up and there might be a grave in Verona, but it just shows that there was a play in Verona. They are not real...they are made up.
No it was not it was true but this was not "Shakespeare in Love". Romeo and Juliet was in fact based on the life of two real lovers who both died for each other and lived in Verona, Italy in 1303. Both the Capulets and Montagues existed in Verona at this time and Shakespeare is reckoned to have discovered this tragic love story in Arthur Brooke's 1562 poem entitled "The Tragical Historye of Romeus and Juliet" .
Romeo and Juliet is made up but it borrows from tragic love stories of the past such as:
Pyramis and Thisbe - Ovid
Ephisiaca - Xenophon of Ephesus
Mariotto and Gianozza - Masuccio Salerintano
Tristan and Isolde - (possibly, it most likely influenced the story of Guievere and Lancelot)
Even though it's just a story you can visit "Juliet's Castle" in Verona, Italy. There is a balcony on the castle revered as Juliet's and it is a popular dining location on Valentines day and for young lovers. A friend of my fiance proposed to his girlfriend there.
It has neither fairies nor magic and it isn't primarily a children's story. A fairy tale could possibly get away with either one of those, but both together make a pretty convincing argument that it isn't.
Romeo is simply a fictional character who appears in a famous play by William Shakespeare. He is neither a martyr nor a legend.
The Prince. "For never was there a story of more woe than this of Juliet and her Romeo."
The deaths of Romeo and Juliet.
Which Romeo and Juliet are you talking about? Romeus and Juliet the poem by Arthur Brooke? Romeo and Juliet the play by William Shakespeare? Romeo and Juliet the Symphonic Poem by Tchaikovsky? Romeo and Juliet the ballet by Prokofieff? Romeo and Juliet the song by Dire Straits? All of them are original works even though they are all about the same story.
Romeo and Juliet's funeral is not depicted within the play at all. The story ends with their deaths.
If you rewrite the ending of a story, you change the story. If you took away the sad ending of Romeo and Juliet, it might be a happy love story (Shakespeare wrote a lot of happy love stories) but it wouldn't be Romeo and Juliet any more.
Romeo was Juliet's lover. As well as being one of the main Characters in the story. Son of Old Montague .
