Saigon, now known as Ho Chi Minh City, is located in the southern portion of the old South Vietnam, in the Mekong River delta. It is approximately 1800km south of Hanoi by road.

When the North Vietnamese and the PLAF/NLF (communist forces in South Vietnam) won the Vietnam war, they renamed Saigon Ho Chi Minh city I believe.
