Adolf Hitler shocked the Nazi Party when he named Karl Donitz his successor. Before Hitler killed himself, and Donitz presumed control of Germany, Donitz was the leader of the Kriegsmarine, or the German Navy.

He was convicted of war crimes at the Nuremburg Trials, and served 10 years in prison.

After him, the Allied military occupation assumed control of Germany. They left in 1949.

Finally, after the Allies left, the wall was put up, and East and West Germany both had new Chancellors.

East Germany had Wilheim Pieck, while West Germany had Theodor Heuss.
