It would have to be in order for the doctrine contained in it to be applicable - especially to those churches in Chapters 2 & 3 as Jewish Kingdom doctrine is found in them and the warnings to them are aimed at those who would know Jewish history. Doctrine is written to those to whom it is applicable at that time and anything else would lead to confusion (as we have today with those that mix Kingdom doctrine with this present Dispensation of Grace).

The introduction even states that these things - The Day of the Lord - must shortly come to pass.

One must also notice that there is a complete lack of any Grace Doctrine contained anywhere in this Book - as if John had no knowledge of it -- unlike John's Gospel.

Joh 1:17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

When, precisely was it written?

Most probably in Acts 11 when John disappears from the Book of Acts.

The Gospel of John appears to have been written during the early part of the second century. We may never know when the Book of Revelation was written, but it does seem to have been written in layers, with some of the earlier material possibly pre-Christian or proto-Christian. It is unlikely that the author of the Gospel ever knew John of Patmos, the final author of Revelation.

Is Revelation the last book of the Bible?

Yes, Revelation is PHYSICALLY the last book in the Holy Bible, but not the last book written in the Bible. John wrote Revelation when he was a prisoner on the Isle of Patmos for preaching about Jesus(Revelation 1:1,2+9), but it is generally believed that he wrote his gospel and his three 'epistles'(1John, 2John, 3John) after he was released from Patmos and was living near Ephesus.

Was the Revelation of St John the Divine the last Biblical book written chronologically?

AnswerThe Revelation of John may have been written in at least two layers, one very early and primitive, and on much later. It is very possible that Revelation was later than the Gospel of John and possibly the pseudo-Pauline Pastorals, 1 and 2 Timothy and Titus. Thus it is possible that Revelation was the last New Testament book to be written in its final form, but nothing is certain.

Why are there two different books of the bible called john?

The apostle John wrote a few books or letters that appear in scripture. John wrote the Gospel of John. John also wrote the letters 1st John, 2nd. John and 3rd. John. John is believed to have written the book of Revelation as well. There are only two "books" in scripture written by John, and that's the Gospel of John and the "Revelation of Jesus Christ," commonly called "Revelation."
