Lord North was forced to resign after his failure to subdue the American colonies during the Revolutionary War. He actually attempted to resign several times during the Revolution, but George III refused to accept his resignation until it was absolutely inevitable. Still, his name will always be remembered in correlation with the minister who lost America.
