Those who preach the immaculate conception of Mary say that it really means she was born free of the stain of original sin. The thought was that Jesus would have inherited a sinful nature from Mary had she been a sinner. But if God was capable of protecting Mary from sin, he would surely have been able to protect Jesus from sin in the same way. Thus, from a Protestant point of view, a circular argument.

The Catholic dogma of the Immaculate Conception was unknown in the early years of the Church, but arose in the Middle Ages. The doctrine was endorsed by the Council of Basel (1431-1449), and by the end of the 15th century was widely professed and taught in many theological faculties. However, the Council of Basel was later held not to have been a true General Council with authority to proclaim dogma. Pope Pius IX formally defined the dogma of the Immaculate Conception ex cathedra in 1854, stressing that Mary's sinlessness was not due to her own merits, but by the merits of her son, Jesus.

So, whether or not Mary was conceived without sin is a matter of faith, a faith held by members of the Roman Catholic Church.

No, Mary was not conceived without sin. In The Bible, only male offspring can be the product of God assisted pregnancy, never female.

All women (and men) are born with sin because of what Eve (and Adam) did in the Garden. Mary was born with sin.

Mary Magdalene was not conceived without original sin. You are confusing Mary Magdalene with Mary the mother of Jesus. The Catholic Church teaches Mary the mother of Jesus was conceived without original sin, but this is not taught in scripture, but a belief held by the church.

Sorry, but Mary was a human being like all of us. The Bible says "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. In order to cleanse us from sin, God sent in 'only' son, Jesus who was the only sinless man, to die for fallen mankind. (For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten so so that whosoever believes on Him, will have everlasting life." Mary needed her sins and mistakes washed by the blood of Jesus just like you and me. "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life." No one can be 'good enough' to save themselves. Only Jesus blood can cleanse us from sin. We must repent and ask Jesus to come into our hearts and lives. Then the Hold Spirit will guide and lead us to righteousness, love and peace. We all nave a God vacuum in our lives that only Jesus can fill. Ask God to wash you clean and come into your life. He will and you will know it.

Our Blessed Lady was conceived without sin because she was to bear God in her womb, and raise Him. Jesus was God meaning that He was all Goodness. Sin is evil. Evil is nothing, literally, it is the ABSENCE of Good. As Our Lady was conceiving and bearing all Goodness, incarnate, evil could not touch her, that would be absurd. Thus her Immaculate Conception was fitting because of who she was to bear.

Pope Pius IX solemnly defined the dogma of Mary's Immaculate Conception on December 8, 1854. This dogma teaches that Mary was conceived without original sin through no merit of her own, but through the intervention of almighty God in view of her role in salvation history.

Our Blessed Lord was God and no sin could touch Him. Every single human being who was ever conceived is conceived, since Adam and Eve, in a state of original sin. Now original sin is not something positive, it is a lack, it is like Adam and Eve lost the gene for original justice and sanctifying grace and thus didn't have it to pass on to their offspring. This is why we baptize babies, to restore original justice and sanctifying grace to the infant to enable them to grow in grace.

Through the Immaculate Conception, through a singular privilege, she was conceived in her mother's womb without original sin, she never contracted a fallen nature, and never inherited the condition nor the effects of original sin, and remained eminently holy her entire life.

Consider the analogy sometimes used of a pit in a road way that people fall into. Our Salvation, was accomplished through Our Blessed Lord's passion, death, and resurrection. This would be God rescuing us from the pit in which we have fallen. BUT, God could also save us by preventing us from every falling in the pit to begin with. That is what He did in the case of Our Blessed Lady. It was the exact same salvation available to us, but it was applied to her - in time - before the actual event took place, from our point of view.

Dr. Zia uses the examples of when we sit down to dinner, we make sure we have clean hands so that our food does not become dirty. Before we go to Mass, we likewise make sure our hands are clean and we fast from all food for an hour before receiving Holy Communion so that we are clean inside and ready to receive Our Blessed Lord. And the priest makes sure the sacred vessels are spotless before confecting the Eucharist. In a similar manner, God chose to come into the world through the spotless womb of Mary, a pure tabernacle untainted with the defilement of sin.

The dogma goes further in teaching that Our Blessed Lady remained free from every actual sin during her entire lifetime. Thus the archangel Gabriel would address her "Hail Mary, full of grace."

What does the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception state?

The Dogma of the Immaculate Conception teaches that the Blessed Virgin Mary was, from the very first moment of her conception, preserved from the guilt of Original Sin. This was accomplished by an anticipation of the merits her Divine Son would gain on the Cross, and these were applied to the Blessed Virgin Mary in advance.

What does it mean to be immaculately conceived?

Roman Catholic AnswerImmaculately conceived means "conceived without original sin". Adam and Eve were "immaculate" as they were created without original sin, but they were not conceived (they didn't have a mother and father). The only person who was conceived, in the normal manner, but was conceived immaculately, was the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Immaculate Conception refers to the fact that Mary, from the first moment of her conception was protected from the stain of original sin that every other human being has inherited from Adam and Eve. This honor was due to the fact that she would bear the son of God in her womb, and sin can not be anywhere near His Conception. Please note that the Immaculate Conception refers exclusively to Mary's conception in the womb of her mother, Anne. It has nothing to do with Jesus' conception.

What does it mean by the Immaculate Conception?

The concept of "Immaculate Conception" is widely misunderstood. It has nothing to do with Mary's conception of Jesus (Virginal Conception), but with the conception of Mary herself in her mother's womb. Her parents, Saints Joachim and Anne, obviously conceived her through normal sexual intercourse, but she was -and still is- considered to be free of Original Sin. Original Sin is not a sin per se, but the potential to do sin. In any case, Immaculate Conception refers to the conception of Mary, not of Jesus. This is not true as it is said in the bible that Mary has more then one son! so she is not free of sin but ^^ what is said about is true accept for she being free of sin.
