Not entirely. It was 'based on a true story' and it was 'dramatized' meaning altered to make it a better story.
This and another movie ("A Haunting in Connecticut" in 2002) were based on events that were reported by the Snedeker family. There have been numerous other similar stories.

The show hasn't been cancelled. The shows name has just been changed atleast that's what I saw yesterday. The shows called "A Haunting" and in the info you know how it say were the haunting took place well from what I saw they've changed the name to where the Haunting is taking place.
