No. Not at all. This movie was taken from the book, In A Dark Place by Ray Garton. When I first contacted Ray, prior to the release of this movie, he was giving interviews explaining that it was a concocted story, that it was in no way true. This and other movies like it are nothing more that money making machines.

Not entirely. It was 'based on a true story' and it was 'dramatized' meaning altered to make it a better story.

This and another movie ("A Haunting in Connecticut" in 2002) were based on events that were reported by the Snedeker family. There have been numerous other similar stories.

The story told in the movie The Haunting in Connecticutis based on an allegedly true story. The key words here are based on - the writers of The Haunting in Connecticut took a lot of liberty developing their plot. Most of the storyline in The Haunting in Connecticut is not a part of the supposedly true story told by the actual family it is based on. You can see their version of the story in the documentary A Haunting in Connecticut (Discovery Channel Hauntings Series).
